About Avionics Europe

Businesses and professionals in the avionics industry have weathered an economic storm and emerged, in many cases, stronger and wiser.

Despite the airlines finding market conditions to continue to be challenging, the avionics industry is buoyant due to the future orders of the airframers such as Airbus and Boeing. Much of the industry has emerging confidence in the coming months and years, as the Single European Sky initiative and NextGen continue to dominate the aerospace industry challenge to help increase capacity and improve traffic flow and safety in the sky.

“Avionics Europe 2012 has been a very worthwhile event for Wind River. In addition to very interesting and informative presentations, the tradeshow gave us the opportunity to connect with some of the leading players in the avionics industry.”
Alex Wilson, Wind River

Avionics Europe is the annual gathering of the avionics industry to discuss the commercial and defence aerospace challenges and demonstrate the latest technologies for a safer, more secure aerospace industry.

The two-day conference and exhibition, covered commercial and defence avionics technologies and challenges under the theme ‘Common Sky: Operating in One Air Space’, discussing the issues and challenges, both strategic and technical, in the future of commercial and defence avionics.

The conference opened with an excellent high profile opening keynote session with outstanding presentations from:

 - Mário Araújo, V-P Engineering from TAP Portugal, looked at the obsolescence of avionics technologies in airlines through developments in new technologies, COTS and from where future avionics will be developed in order to work with SESAR and the next generation 4-D.

- Brigadier General Hans-Georg Schmidt, Chairman of the Military Air Traffic Management Board, EUROCONTROL, Germany, focused on the civil and military air traffic management and air space management coordination, which is key to the success of the Single European Sky and cooperation in the air.

- Pierre Bachilier, Head of ATM Programme. Airbus Engineering, looked at how a Airbus view the need for increased efficiency and safety in light of the future increased capacity forecasts, taking advantage of new airborne capabilities, increasing interaction between air and ground systems and developing automation to reduce workload.

The keynote session was followed by two days of conference sessions with 50 international speakers, plus a series of technical work shops.

Marc Gatti, Thales Systemes Aeroportes, said, “This years Avionics Europe has been very interesting as it has covered every kind of feature we can have in avionics, from cockpit displays to embedded avionics and focus on innovations covering both commercial and military aspects.”

Leading industry organisations, the Association of European Airlines, SESAR Joint Undertaking, EUROCAE and the German Aerospace Society and Royal Aeronautical Societies also hosted a series of special forums, focussing on issues directly within the industry, that impact on the work and business of avionics professionals and the industry at large.
